Description

This preparation course builds the knowledge, practical understanding and exam readiness required for the Sustainability and Climate Risk (SCR®) Exam. Aligned with the current SCR® curriculum, it explores climate science and policy; physical and transition risks; sustainability and climate policy, culture and governance; green and sustainable finance; climate risk measurement and management; climate models and scenario analysis; net-zero strategies; climate and nature risk assessment; and transition planning and carbon reporting.

Through structured learning, practical applications, knowledge checks, University-developed exam-focused practice questions, case-based exercises and a personalised study plan, participants develop a strong understanding of sustainability and climate risk management and prepare for the examination with confidence.

explain the scientific foundations of climate change, including the greenhouse effect, climate-related impacts, mitigation, adaptation and global climate goals;

distinguish sustainability, ESG and climate risk, and explain how policy, culture, governance and regulatory frameworks shape organisational responses to climate change;

identify and evaluate physical and transition risks and opportunities, and explain how climate-risk drivers can translate into operational, credit, liquidity, underwriting, market, sovereign and systemic risks;

describe key green and sustainable finance markets and instruments, and explain how sustainability and climate considerations inform investment and lending decisions;

interpret climate-risk data, metrics, models and scenarios, and explain how climate risk can be integrated into enterprise and portfolio risk management;

assess the credibility of net-zero commitments, evaluate climate and nature risks, and explain transition planning, GHG accounting, carbon reporting and financed emissions; and

apply concepts from the SCR® curriculum to University-developed exam-focused multiple-choice questions, practical scenarios and case-based exercises.

Structure

The preparation course is aligned with the current SCR® curriculum and combines structured learning, practical applications, knowledge checks and exam-focused practice. Participants progress through the ten curriculum chapters, organised into four learning parts, before completing a dedicated SCR® Exam preparation session.

Climate Risk, Policy & Governance

Chapters 3–4

Physical and transition risks, financial transmission channels, stranded assets and just transition

International climate policy, carbon pricing, Scopes 1, 2 and 3 emissions, governance, regulation and green taxonomies

Part 3:
Sustainable Finance & Climate Risk Management

Chapters 5–6

Green and sustainable finance markets, instruments, investment and lending decisions

Climate-risk data, metrics and analytical tools across operational, credit, liquidity, underwriting, market, sovereign and systemic risk

Integration of physical and transition risk into enterprise and portfolio risk management

Part 4:
Scenario Analysis, Net Zero, Nature Risk & Transition Planning

Climate models, reference scenarios and scenario analysis for physical and transition risk

Net-zero targets, pathways, interim targets and portfolio-alignment metrics

Prerequisites:

No specific prior knowledge, professional qualification or work experience is required

Official Exam Registration:

Registration and payment for the official SCR® Exam are completed separately through GARP® and are not included in the University preparation fee

Recommended Preparation:

Candidates are encouraged to begin studying 3–4 months before their examination date. GARP recommends approximately 100–150 hours of total preparation, and the course provides a structured study plan to help participants organise their preparation

University-developed preparation materials, knowledge checks, multiple-choice practice questions, practical applications, case-based exercises and a personalised study plan. Candidates registered for the official examination receive separate access through GARP to the current SCR® curriculum, the GARP Learning platform, official practice exams and other GARP-produced study resources

This course prepares candidates for the official SCR® Exam. After passing the examination, candidates receive the Sustainability and Climate Risk (SCR®) Certificate and digital badge from GARP®, become SCR® Certificate Holders, and are eligible to be listed in the GARP SCR Climate Risk Experts Network

Official SCR® Exam:

80 equally weighted multiple-choice questions, including one multi-part case-study question · 4 hours · pass/fail · offered in April and October · available in American English

Exam Delivery Options:

Take the examination in person at a Pearson VUE computer-based testing centre or remotely through Pearson VUE’s OnVUE online proctoring system
